Depression

What is Depression?

Depression is a mental health disorder characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a loss of interest or pleasure in activities. It goes beyond normal fluctuations in mood and can significantly impair a person's daily functioning, affecting their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

The symptoms of depression can vary in severity and duration but commonly include:

  1. Persistent sadness, emptiness, or feelings of despair.

  2. Loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed.

  3. Significant changes in appetite and weight.

  4. Sleep disturbances, such as insomnia or excessive sleep.

  5. Fatigue or loss of energy.

  6. Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt.

  7. Difficulty concentrating, making decisions, or remembering things.

  8. Restlessness or slowed movements.

  9. Recurring thoughts of death or suicide.

Depression can manifest differently in individuals, and not everyone experiences all of these symptoms. Additionally, depression can occur alongside other mental health conditions, such as anxiety disorders.
